Vineyard Establishment – Scope Of Services Provided 

Many thanks for offering Vines Direct Ltd the opportunity to become involved with your vineyard plantation project. 

We offer a comprehensive service that will deliver you a fully installed vineyard. This comprises of the following elements: 

Initial Consultation: 

There is no charge made for the initial consultation, during which we will assess your proposed site, find out more about your overall plans, the styles of wine or grape varieties which you wish to produce and the volumes thereof. 

From this consultation you will be provided with a verdict on the suitability of your site for commercial viticulture, and more specifically on the suitability of the site in respect to the wine style / grape variety that you wish to produce from it. 

Soil Analysis: 

Soil will be analysed for nutrient status, pH, texture, structure and organic matter levels. You will be provided with an interpretation of the laboratory analysis and with a recommendation for the necessary additions of fertiliser, compost or soil improvers such as lime or gypsum. 

Site Preparation: 

This is one of the most important aspects of vineyard establishment, and is often not given full enough attention or resources. 

We will create and implement a site & soil preparation programme which covers shelter belt installation (if necessary), protective fencing, soil nutrient correction, land drainage (if necessary), pre planting soil cultivations and pre planting cover crops (where appropriate). 

Vineyard Design: 

We advise on the most suitable density of plants per acre – thus determining alleyway width, vine spacing in the row and row orientation. 

We advise on the most appropriate trellising system within which to grow the crop, and how to undertake the management of this system.
